The Site is a former orchard area that has had residential development. Prior to an EPA ban in 1972, a variety of pesticides including lead-arsenates and DDT compounds were applied.
EPA conducted a removal action at one property at the Crozet Arsenic Site in Crozet, Virginia. Historical sampling indicated that additional properties may need removal work.

ERRS continued prepping and planting fern grids. Fifteen fern planting grids were completed through 5/18/07.
Excavation of grid RASP-19 began on 5/16 and was completed on 5/18. Excavation of grid 050-04 began on 5/17.
ERT personnel was on-site on 5/16, with ERTV, a contractual film production company. Irrigation installation began on 5/16.
START collected four 9-point composite samples to be analyzed via XRF and laboratory analysis. The samples were from fern planting grids as follows: One from a grid below 100 ppm As and shaded; one from a grid below 100 ppm As and not shaded; one from a grid above 100 ppm and not shaded; and one from an excavation grid above 200 ppm As.
START conducted air monitoring to ensure that no fugitive dust moved offsite.
ERRS continued to dispose of arsenic contaminated soil at an appropriate facility.
