Mopar Lane Mercury is located at 123 Mopar Lane, Columbia, MS. It is associated with the Baxterville Mercury Spill Site in that the child who spilled the mercury there lives at Mopar Lane. Initial screening of the Mopar Lane home was done on 8/2/2007 and elevated levels were found throughout the home. Twelve ug/m3 in the home and 25-40 ug/m3 in the laundry room where the child’s’ clothes were tossed. The residents of the home have been relocated to a hotel while EPA cleans the home.
The following activities occurred during this reporting period:
- All of the personal items have been screened for vapors. - ERRS removed the carpet from the living room. - A closure test was performed the afternoon of 8/5/07 and it failed. The source appears to be coming from the carpet (more like a rug) of a back bedroom.
The following actions will take place during the next reporting period:
- The carpet will be removed from the back bedroom and the room vacuumed. - Once the room is vacuumed with the merc-vac, the home will be closed up and another closure test performed.
The following actions have been identified as next steps:
- If removing the carpet and vacuuming does not bring the home to below 1 ug/m3, additional heating and venting will be performed until the home is cleared.
