The following activities occurred during this reporting period:
On August 6, ERRS crews replaced all of the plumbing fittings in the home. Further investigation was made into the source of the mercury release in the bathroom area and the trap was removed from the tub. Testing with the Lumex revealed very high levels of mercury vapors in the trap.
On August 7, the decision was made to remove the tub, sink and counter top from the bathroom after mercury vapor levels were still found high near these surfaces. Also, the resident of the home stated that they initially poured the mercury down the drain in the bathroom. These items were removed early in the day and then the floor in the bathroom was painted.
On August 8, the home was closed in the morning for a closure test and the home passed. The sink and counter top did not pass after being allowed to bake off in the sun and heat. The tub was close to being under ten and was left in the heat to vent off any remaining vapors.
On August 9, vapors coming from the tub were less than RAL for personal items and allowed to be reinstalled in the home. Also, a new sink and counter top were purchased and placed in the bathroom. The owner, Frankie Lucas, called the OSC and informed him that he would allow EPA to put in carpet of similar variety in the trailer.
