Current Activities

The U.S. EPA completed the round of baseline sampling on Sunday, August 12, 2007.  All the data was sent to the State agencies.  There is no evidence of hazardous materials releases at this time.

Planned Removal Actions

Today, we were told that demolition might begin on Wednesday or Thursday, but that is subject to change due to weather and recovery operations.  We will be notified when the bridge deconstruction begins.  At that time, we will conduct additional air sampling.  There will be 5 consecutive days of sampling at the same 7 locations previously established.  The purpose of this additional sampling is to determine if the demolition activities have an impact on air quality in the nearby residential neighborhoods.

We will be analyzing for the same parameters: asbestos, metals, particulates and silica.

Next Steps

Conduct the 5 consecutive days of sampling, and submit the data to the State for evaluation.

Key Issues

Weather - Heavy rain in MN in the last few days  is delaying the work on site.  There is more rain in the forecast.  We are ready to commence the sampling as soon as the demolition begins.
