The Site is a residential sub-division near Conifer, Colorado. The Site consists of residences and buildings/businesses typical of a small mountain community.
In 1994 a sampling of a drinking water well by the Colorado Department of Health (CDH), in accordance with Colorado drinking water regulations for "non-transient non-community" systems, showed the well containing CCl4 in concentrations (9 parts per billion [ppb]) above the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) [5 ppb]. Four other drinking water wells within a 1/2 mile radius also were tested with no detections of CCl4.
On 10/25/94, EPA 8 initiated the Removal and began supplying bottled water to 25 resicences. During November, EPA 8 conducted two community/public meegings so as to provide updates to the local residents.
A Treatability Study, to determine the best method of removing the CCl4 from the water skystem was conducted by the EPA-ERT.
Surface geophysics were conducted by the EPA-ERT, and EPA-TAT arranged for aerial photographs/surveys of the area.
Determine the number of homes requiring remediation (when compared to the treshhold/triggering criteria), and install the required treatment systems.
Continue with Site ivestigations, using downhole geophysics.
