Current Activities

Greka is continuing to conduct cleanup operations in the creek.  The recent rains brought much of the oil to the surface.  After consultation with the California Dept. of Fish and Game (DFG)Warden on-site, it was OSC Wise directed Greka to assist their contractor with the mechanical excavation of the creek.  Greka is to provide a backhoe and operator only.  No Greka personnel are to work in the creek.  Mechanical excavation was used to the deep impaction of the oil into the floor and walls of the creek presumably to heavy water flow from the recent rains.  Mechanical excavation will be limited to the areas identified on Feb. 9 and be conducted under the supervision of the Pacific Strike Team and DFG.

Planned Removal Actions

1.  A walk of the creek is planned for Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 to identify any additional areas requiring oil removal.
2.  Greka must remove all the oiled sediment from the waste water pond from which the still originated to prevent future spills.
3.  Greka must submit a sampling plan to EPA and the Santa Barbara Co. Fire Department for approval prior to cleanup confirmation sampling.
