Site Description

The Blue Ledge Mine site (Site) is an abandoned copper mine situated on patented private land within the Rogue River National Forest on United States Forest Service (USFS) Road 1060.

Current Activities

September 16 - 17, 2006

No on-site work performed on the weekend.

September 18, 2006

Personnel:  1 OSC, 1 START, 7 ERRS
Weather:  Cool, Clear Skies, Sunny, mid 50’s to high 60’s.  

The ERRS contractor continued to place and key in limestone boulders in sloped channel.  ERRS cut and placed tree branches on the exposed slope west of the channel to minimize winter erosion effects.  OSC Chris Weden arrived today and was given a site tour.  

September 19, 2006

Personnel:  1 OSC, 1 START, 8 ERRS
Weather:  Cool morning, overcast, low 50’s breaking to sunny clear skies high 60’s.  

The ERRS contractor finished final placement of limestone boulders in the channel connecting to the sediment pond.  ERRS “slashed” the lower road with tree branches and wood debris.  Additionally they removed the soil and trees in the run-off channel at the upper road.  They placed and secured limestone boulders in the channel and built a reinforcement berm down slope.  All equipment was brought down and decontaminated.  OSC Chris Weden to meet with USFS rep. Pete Jones tomorrow.

Planned Removal Actions

Current removal activities at the site have been completed. The stabilazation and passive treatment efforts outlined in the action memo have been accomplished. Weather conditions will soon make access to the site impossible.  No further ERS sponsored removal activities are currently planned for the site.
