On April 28, 2008 the ERRS contractor initiated excavation of the fireholes as per the approved Trommel Sifting SOW.  Excavation commenced ahead of the mobilization of the trommel machine to allow for prepped soils to be air drying.  The mobilization of the trommel will occur on 5/1 and actual soil sifting will occur either 5/2 or 5/5 depending on weather conditions.  Presently staged stockpiled soils from the hydro aeration effore will be trommel sifted initiated followed by stockpiled soils from the firehole excavation.

START has finalized the modification to the site Air Monitoring/Sampling and Analytical Plan.  Sampling for airborne asbestos fibers commenced on 4/29 due to rainy weather on 4/28.  Three samples will be collected from the excavation zone (upwind, downwind and personnel) and shipped to lab for same day turnaround.  Initial results are pending.

Next Steps

Continue excavation and trommel sifting of firehole soils.
