POLLUTION REPORT

Subject: 

The Site, Kidney Specialist of Savannah Clinic, is a business housed within a single story, brick building located at 500 E 66th Street, Savannah, GA. Geographical coordinates for the Site are North Latitude 32.03029 x West Longitude -81.09736. In response to NRC Report #874319, and at the request of Savannah Fire Departments' Hazardous Materials Division (Hazmat), EPA mobilized to the clinic to provide air monitoring at the incident involving the release of elemental mercury inside the clinic. The release originated from a Sphygmomanometer. Savannah Hazmat, first responder to the Site, recovered and staged the mercury but lacked the specialized equipment needed to provide adequate screening for mercury vapors.

July 1st

- Kidney Specialists of Savannah continued business as usual although that business was confined to the south end. The north end, exclusive of the 2 source rooms has been made available for unrestricted administrative use. Full use pended confirmation monitoring that was conducted during the day today.  
- The site access and egress continues to allow for the operation of the facility.  PRP contractor mobile command post continues to be used to provide respite for extreme heat, improve communications capabilities, and augment logistical support.
- Confirmation clearance was successfully accomplished today for the two source rooms.  ATSDR attainment goals for the rooms were met. - The PRP contractor began demobilization of equipment.  In addition, both the 20 CY nonhaz rolloff (approx 3/4 full) and 52 55 gallon hazardous debris steel drums will be moved to temporary storage at their nearby facility awaiting final disposal in accordance with the Waste Disposal Plan. https://www.epaosc.net/sites/4171/files/waste%20disposal%20plan%20kidney%20specialists%20of%20savannah.pdf

- The Savannah Morning News contacted the EPA Atlanta Public Affairs Office and was briefed accordingly on the progress at the site.
- OSC and START will return to Atlanta on July 2, 2008.
