Site Description

EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Lavigne Manufacturing, Inc. is making plans to remove its material off site. EPA continues to plan and implement repackaging of materials to make it more stable and accessible for the remainder of the generators who wish to remove their material.      

EPA’s ERRS contractor is repackaging the remainder of drums on site.  PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site.  The START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA.  EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental Services, Inc. held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities.  ERRS  continued repackaging material from badly deteriorated containers into new drums and staging them in Building #2. A total of 1,900 drums of repackaged materials have been staged in Building #2. ERRS conducted maintenance and house-keeping activities on site as required.

START provided technical assistance, contractor oversight and written and photographic documentation during field activities.

ERRS held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities.  ERRS  continued repackaging deteriorated drums of materials and staging them in Building #2.  ERRS conducted maintenance and house-keeping activities on site as required. Following the identification of bulging lids on five of the 55-gallon drums that contained low level radioactive waste, ERRS removed and replaced lids on five drums of low level radioactive material after it was identified that their lids were bulging. ERRS has repackaged 1,991 drums to date.

START provided technical assistance, contractor oversight and written and photographic documentation during field activities.


Next Steps

ERRS will begin disposal characterization of drums currently staged in building #9 on 8/12/08.
