POLLUTION REPORT

The 50 East Mill Street Site (the Site) is located at 50 East Mill Street, in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. It is located just south of the intersection of Henry Avenue and East Mill Street. The geographic coordinates of the Site, as measured from the approximate center of the property, are 42º 26′ 35.2″ north latitude and 73º 15′ 36.4″ west longitude. The Site is located in a predominantly residential area located approximately 0.5 mile south of downtown Pittsfield. It is bordered by Atwood Avenue and residential housing to the east, East Mill Street and residential housing to the north, and the West Branch of the Housatonic River to the west and south. One building is now present (four-bay garage). The four-bay garage was connected to city utilities (water and sewer), with electrical power provided by overhead wire.

The former mill building was demolished and removed.  Contaminated soil with high concentrations of lead was removed from the Site. Soil was removed from locations near the four-bay garage and primarily from the area behind the former mill building.  Two feet of clean fill was placed in the areas near the garage were the contaminated soil was removed.  In the areas near the former mill building, a minumum cover of 5 feet of clean fill was placed where the contaminated soil was removed after final grading of that area.

During the week of 07/14/2008:

1.  The final site walk with representative of MassDEP, Berkshire Regional Planning, and the City of Pittsfield was conducted on 7/17/2008. Gate keys to the Site were provided to the MassDEP and Pittsfield representatives.

2.  Final demobe from the Site occurred on 7/17/08.

Disposition of Waste Summary Completed on 8/21/08.
