Site Description

EPA continues its emergency removal action at this site which currently involves the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials.  Lavigne Manufacturing, Inc. is making plans to remove its material off site. EPA continues to repackage magnesium materials in DOT shippable drums with vented lids. This will will increase the materials’ stability as well as make it ready to be shipped for disposal from site or retrieval by the initial generators.      

EPA’s ERRS contractor is repackaging the remainder of deteriorated drums on site.  PADEP is overseeing site activities for the State and providing support.EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA.  EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site as well as coordinate activities with the various generators.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental Services, Inc. held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities.  ERRS  continued repackaging material from deteriorated containers into new drums and stagethem in Building #2. To date, over 2,000 drums have been repackaged.  ERRS began hazard-categorization testing of drummed waste material stored in building 9. ERRS also conducted maintenance and house-keeping activities on site as required.

START provided technical assistance, contractor oversight and written and photographic documentation during field activities.

ERRS held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities. ERRS continued repackaging deteriorated drums of materials and staging them in Building #2. ERRS continued testing and categorizing waste staged in drums and other containers in building #9.  Categorized material was prepared for transportation and disposal. ERRS also conducted maintenance and house-keeping activities on site as required.  

START provided technical assistance, contractor oversight and written and photographic documentation during field activities.


Next Steps

ERRS will complete hazardous-categorization of materials in building #9. Following completion arrangements will be made for disposal.
