The Site consists of 7 structures and 4 yards situated on 5 residential properties known as “homesites.” In winter 2007-2008, U.S. EPA, in partnership with Navajo Nation EPA (NNEPA), investigated 56 homesites containing 113 structures. The overall investigation identified 27 structures and 12 yards requiring response actions. The 7 structures of concern and the 4 residential yards are located within the Teec Nos Pos Chapter area. Two of the structures are occupied for residential purposes, although one resident has since moved to another structure on the same homesite.

START - 2, EPA - 1(OSC Duncan), USCG - 1, ERRS - 6. From 10/06 through 10/10, ERRS mobilized equipment and resources from Red Valley to Teec Nos Pos. The ERRS crew also began prepping roads leading to Homesites within the Teec Nos Pos area, as well as constructing a staging area for the EPA Command Post, ERRS Command Post and demolition resources. EPA and NNEPA have not received archaeological clearance for all Teec Nos Pos structures and therefore cannot begin demolition activities.
During this same time period the START contractor began "staking" areas around homesites where soil excavation would take place. These areas were identified during previous assessments and confirmed during this time period. The START also conducted a survey of a cinder block structure (Structure D) on HS-005. There was no access to this structure during the December and April assessments. The survey concluded that the structure was contaminated and needed to remediated.
The ERRS and START crews will take both Saturday and Sunday off.
|
As soon as EPA and NNEPA receive archaeological clearance for the structures in Teec Nos Pos demolition activities can begin. ERRS will probably start on HS-0003.
|
No waste has been disposed at this time.
