Site Description
At 0530, a citizen contacted the Houston Fire Department of a vapor cloud eminating from a facility located at 5921 Plainview.  Houston FD responded to the scene to determine the source.  The source was identified as a approximate 10000 gallon above ground storage tank (AST) of 36% Hydrochloric Acid.

At 0809, the Houston FD reported this release to the National Response Center (NRC # 896347).  The PRP was reported as Sharp Performance Chemicals located at 5921 Plainview, Houston, Texas.


Current Activities
On February 1, 2009, The City of Houston FD and Public Works addressed the source of the spill as well as the off-site release.  Upon completion of these activities, the City of Houston demobilized its assets from the site.

The PRP continued response actions after demobilizatin by the City of Houston by applying soda ash and absorbent materials to the HCL liquid remaining on-site.  The volume of HCL liquid remaining on-site within potholes and depressions on the driveway and surrounding areas is estimated at 100 gallons.  


Planned Removal Actions
The PRP will complete the neutralization and aborbtion of the remaining liquids and is in the process of hiring a remediation company to assist in address the absorbed acid contaminaed wastes and contaminated soils.

Next Steps
The PRP will assess the area to determine the necessary cleanup activities.  TCEQ will take the lead in oversight of the cleanup activities.
