Current Activities
EPA and its contractors remobilized and commenced removal activities at the Bluefield Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on May 4, 2010.  The Removal action is being conducted to remove and replace filter media from the tertiary filter beds.  Removal of filter media from the three tertiary filter beds was completed on May 20, 2010.  Filter media has been re-installed in one filter bed and is continuing in the remaining two filter beds.  Removed filter media is being allowed to dry in preparation for transportation and off-site disposal.

EPA initiated a groundwater investigation at the Lin Electric Company site.  EPA installed and developed three temporary groundwater monitoring wells on May 18-19, 2010.  Groundwater samples will be collected from the wells at a later date.

Planned Removal Actions
Complete the re-installation of filter media in the BSB tertiary beds.

The groundwater monitoring wells will be sampled the week of June 1, 2010.  The groundwater samples will be analyzed for volatile organic compounds and PCB congeners.

Complete evaluation of all environmental information in order to determine whether EPA Removal actions are completed.
