For Site description and background information, refer to previous POLREP.
During December 2006, ERRS contractors continued demolition activities of the concrete pad area around the tank farm and began removing the concrete block wall for future crushing. In addition, the contents from the 12,000 gallon tank near the command post was determined to be a mixed paraformaldehyde-polymer waste and arrangements were made for its disposal. Approximately 20,000 pounds of the paraformaldehyde waste was shipped to Clean Harbors Inc for incineration at their Kimball, Nebraska facility.
Soil sampling conducted under the former tank farm area indicated low levels of metals and solvents below EPA removal guidelines. The site transportation and disposal coordinator found eight small gas cylinders (lecture bottles) containing unknown gas and was arranging for analysis and disposal.
USCG Gulf Strike Team continues to conduct site oversite with an emphasis on contractor safety and air monitoring during all phases of disposal.
January 2007 Continue concrete demolition and crushing activities. Finalize disposal of remaining waste and lecture bottles. Final site graging activities and hydroseeding.
