At 0700 hours on 03-FEB-06, a facility operator discovered a release of gasoline from the loading area at the facility. Facility personnel calculated that 5,000 gallons of gasoline had been released. The product had migrated off-site into a swamp area located about 600 yards from the Okatoma River. The PRP initiated their Emergency Response Plan and brought four contractors on-site to help with the response. MDEQ SOSC Shirley and EPA FOSC Russell responded.
The PRP's contractors removed all visible free product. Due to the complexity associated with the removal of the petroleum contaminated soil, the PRP tilled in "oil gator" and will submit a removal plan to MDEQ. Booms and underflow dams were incorporated to ensure that the product did not reach the nearby creek.
A removal plan will be submitted to MDEQ. MDEQ will oversee the cleanup/removal activities.
