Start Date: 7/6/2006 Completion Date: 7/13/2006
Site Description
NRC Report #803184:  Russellville, Logan County, Kentucky:  An individual mowing a field, struck an abandoned oil well casing, in turn, the casing was damaged and fifteen (15) barrels of oil were released.  KYDEP/ERT responded to the scene and placed hay bales and other absorbent materials around the release to help prevent the oil from reaching the nearby Town Branch (a tributary of the Green River, which is a tributary of the Ohio River).  EPA Phone Duty provided the KYDEP with a PRFA (Pollution Removal Funding Authorization) to hire a contractor to contain and remove the oil.  The Kentucky Oil and Gas Board will hire a contractor to properly close the abandoned well.

Current Activities
KYDEP/ERT hired a local cleanup contractor to contain the release, as well as remove all contaminated material.

Planned Removal Actions
Removal actions have been completed.

Next Steps
EPA/R4 will facilitate the PRFA from the KYDEP/ERT once received.  It is anticipated that the package from the KYDEP/ERT will be received the week of 8/21/06.
