Current Activities
On September 20, 2007, backfill of vinyl sheet piling panels completed the barrier wall installation activities.  From August 20, 2007 through September 19, 2007, a total of 306 vinyl sheetpile panels were installed to complete the project, for a total of 612 linear feet of sheetpile.  A summary by section of panels is as follows:  the west barrier wall consists of a total of 99 total panels, the south barrier wall consists of 196 panels, and the north barrier wall consists of 11 panels.  Sheetpile panels were installed at varying depths down to 15 feet below ground surface (bgs) using 16 foot panels, with the exception of the side of a site building, where depths down to 17 feet bgs were achieved using 18 foot panels.

From September 24, 2007 through September 25, 2007, 220 feet of ditch along Franklin Street adjacent to the south boundary of the property was excavated to remove grossly contaminated soil and coal tar.  The 220 feet of ditch was restored by placing sand, geofabric liner, and a rip rap top dressing.  The initial 90 feet of Franklin Street ditch was excavated and restored from August 14 through August 16, 2007.

On September 26, 2007, the newly installed monitoring wells and recovery wells were gauged for total well depth, groundwater level, and the presence of free product.

On September 26, 2007, a total of 89.78 tons, and on September 27, 2007 a total of 230 Tons of stockpiled non-hazardous waste soil was hauled to K&W landfill in Ontonagon, MI.

On September 27, 2007, the ERRS crew demobilized from the site after site restoration activities were completed.

START subsequently conducted three rounds (October 2007, January 2008, April 2008) of groundwater monitoring and monthly static water level/free product checks. The groundwater monitoring and free product checks provided a baseline to determine current/future contaminant movement, if any. The results of the monitoring and product checks indicated the sheet pile barrier is effective in preventing further off-site migration of gross contamination; and contaminants did not move beyond the margins of the barrier during the monitoring period. The final field activity was conducted on July 10, 2008.
