Site Description
At Kentucky DEPs request, OSC Glenn Adams was dispatched to the site at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, April 25th to assist local law enforcement and County Health officials with assessing and stabilizing unknown materials in a residence. Local law enforecement found several syringes and bags of material which appeared to be associated with mushroom cultivation of possibly hallucinagenic materials. The owner of the residence was arrested earlier in the day for other charges.

Current Activities
On April 26th, OSC Spurlin arrived on-site at approximately 1030 hrs CDT and received a briefing from OSC Adams. OSC Adams demobilized and OSC Spurlin remained to continue to provide technical support throughout the day to local responders.  Marshall County EMA requested assistance from KY EMA who mobilized their Hazmat Unit 1 out of Paducah, KY.  The KY Hazmat Unit 1 recovered the suspected material from the trailer and treated the material with a bleach solution.  This killed any active spores and rendered the material non-hazardous.  The material was then transported by county sanitation to the local landfill for burial.

Once these activities were completed, OSC Spurlin demobilized from the site at approximately 1930 hrs CDT on April 26th.

No further action by EPA is anticipated for this site.
