Site Description
OSC Smith and START (TTEMI) were dispatched to a fire at the Pyles Demolition Landfill in Columbia, KY to meet with state officials and assist with air monitoring and oversight.   According to OSC Smith, the landfill caught fire on October 5th and the responsible party, along with the Columbia Fire Department have been trying to dispatch the fire through excavating the waste from the landfill hot zones.   Although state officials utilized SUMA canisters to try and determine the contents of the plume, EPA assistance was requested to conduct additional air monitoring.   The Columbia Regional Office as well as DAQ Bowling Green has received numerous odor complaints from the surrounding community.
