Work resumed on Monday August 31.
Laboratory results confirmed soil/trash pile at Site A was below any actionable level. Work continued with the physical screening/separation of trash from soil. The trash has been removed to a municipal landfill. The screened soil was returned to the excavations at Site A and some of the screened soil was taken to Site B as fill. Two more lead-acid battery were discovered at Site A.
Work will resume on Tuesday September 8. Completing the soil screening, trash disposal and backfilling at Site A is anticipated to require less than a full day’s effort. The remaining soil found to contain contaminants above actions levels and the drums and other containers found at Site B will be staged at Site A. Lined and covered roll-off containers will be brought into Site A. The soil from both Site A and B that contained contaminants above action levels will be loaded into the roll off containers and hauled to a hazardous waste landfill in Arlington, Oregon.
In the next week or two, monitoring wells will be installed to sample the shallow groundwater for contaminates of concern. The water samples will be sent to a laboratory for analysis. Preliminary results for the analytical samples are expected to be available after approximately 10 days.
