Current Activities
Site excavation continues.  The following grids which contained contaminated soils have been excavated: D-2, G-7,I-11,J-11,H-12,G-14.  Initial analytical results for grids D-2, J-11 have confirmed the removal of contaminated soils and are cleared for back fill.  Grid I-11 results indicated additional excavation was warrented.   Analytical results from grids G-7,I-11,H-12,and G-14, will be available by COB 07-10-09.

Two of three contaminated soils stock piles have been completed and are awaiting disposal based on analytical profiles.

Back fill operations have begun in grid D-2, stockpiling of clean fill will continue.

Planned Removal Actions
Excavation of contaminated soils is expected to continue through the week of July 13th.  Stockpiles of clean fill is expected to continue through the week of July 10th.   Upon receipt of analytical results from contaminated stockpiles, disposal will begin and is expected to last at least two weeks.

The relocation of one resident on Site is expected to occur during the week of July 7th for one week.  Relocation is necessary, as grid F-3 is located in resident’s septic drainage field.  During excavation all water and sewage flow will be stopped for approximately 5 days, as soil excavation and backfill is conducted.  The excavation of this grid may also require the replacement of the septic drainage lines from this residential property.

Next Steps
Excavation and analytical results from all grids is expected to be completed by the week of July 10th.  Analytical Results from the contaminated stock for disposal purposes is expected to be completed by the week of July 13th.  Disposal is expected to begin the week of July 13th.

Key Issues
KDEP continues to provide a presence on Site during the removal process.  EPA will cooperate with KDEP on additional removal of suspect soil contamination areas and drainage sediment soil areas, as long as current removal funds for Site allow.
