Current Activities

The construction of a permanent sheltered pumping and filtration oil recovery system was completed by CTDEP contractors in July 2004. All of the areas excavated during the initial cleanup have been backfilled and resurfaced. Based on lithological conditions at the Site, CTDEP estimates oil recovery activities will continue throughout the remainder of the year, if not longer. During this period, CTDEP will provide continuous monitoring of the recovery activities on a weekly basis.

Planned Removal Actions
CTDEP will continue supervision and oversight of oil recovery activities and update EPA on a periodic basis regarding the status of the cleanup.

Next Steps
The EPA OSC will continue to provide periodic inspections of the cleanup to ensure continued mitigation is not inconsistent with OPA/NCP cleanup protocol.

Key Issues
This cleanup is being conducted by CTDEP under a EPA-Approved PRFA. At the request of CTDEP the PRFA ceiling was raised from $50,000 to it's current ceiling of $95,000. The ceiling increase
was based on CTDEP projected costs related to long term monitoring and maintenance-related activiies regarding the oil recovery system.
