Time-Critical - Removal Action Pollution Report (POLREP) #14
Start Date: 11/7/2002
Pollution Report (POLREP) #14
Site Description
The Mill building is gone and the foundation buried. The salvageable beams from the building have been taken away for reuse. All wood leaving the site, passed the reuse criteria (for residue metals contamination) developed following an example from Bunker Hill.  All the mill tailings have been removed from the Mill Pond (lower tailings impoundment).

Current Activities
EPA returned the week of October 25th to remove the final mill tailings & process equipment. The EPA took over the removal of the process equipment due to the RP's continued finanical disputes with their contractors, and concern that the equipment would be not be removed before before the onset of winter. Our construction equipment was left on site, awaiting additional trucks & lab/XRF confirmation that all materials had been removed. EPA/START/EQM returned November 2nd to conduct XRF testing & wrap up the site.  EPA & its contractors demobed from the site on November 4th.

Next Steps
The RP will fill the void left from the Mill Pond tailings excavation with the scrap wood debris from the Mill building demolition.

Complete Final Report.

Key Issues
- Washington State Dept of Ecology (Rick Roeder) and EPA (Rees) conducted a walk through of the former mill site and agreed the Federal effort was completed.
- However, Ecology will still press the RP to deal with the upper tailings pond.
