On Tuesday June 7th, 2016 at approximately 3:15 PM local time a mercury spill occurred in a residence in Park City, Utah.

While repairing an antique clock approximately ½ cup of mercury was spilled. Most of the mercury was collected from a granite countertop and wood flooring, but some of the mercury entered a heating vent on the floor, and small beads were also vacuumed. The family have evacuated the home and the local fire department has secured the area.

Due to the large quantity of mercury involved and the use of a vacuum, which often exacerbates the problem, OSC Pete Stevenson has been being deployed along with START and ERRS to assess the situation and perform cleanup as required. OSC Stevenson, START and ERRS arrived on site midafternoon on Wednesday, June 8th.

All actions are being coordinated with the property owners, Utah Department of Environmental Quality and the director of the Summit County Environmental Health Department.
