On November 27, 2017, the Utah Department of Environmental
Quality requested assistance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 8 to address a release of an unknown amount of mercury spilled inside a residence in Provo, UT. The incident occurred on November 23, 2017, when children were playing with a mercury-in-glass thermometer.

On November 28, 2017, an EPA Region 8 On-Scene-Coordinator and Emergency Response and Removal Services contractor responded to the request and initiated an emergency removal at the site. This removal action was completed on November 30, 2017.
