Removal action conducted by the respondents under an Administrative Settlement Agreement and Order by Consent to address dioxin contaminated soils beneath the Brook Village parking areas.  The Order was effective on August 11, 2009. Contaminants are migrating to the Woonasquatucket River via groundwater.  Excavation and off-site disposal of dioxin contaminated soils from source area was completed by November 2009.

A brief chronology follows:
Personnel and equiment were mobilized to the Site on August 18, 2009. Site preparation (tree and brush clearing) began on August 19, 2009.

Installation of sheet piling on the Woonasquatucket River commenced on August 24, 2009. Excavation of contaminated soils began on September 01, 2009. The first shipment of waste offsite occurred on September 10, 2009. Dioxin contaminated soils are being transportd to the Bennet incinerator in Canada.

Sept 28, 2009 - After shipping 84 containers of hazardous soil to the Bennet Incinerator Facility in Canada, the contrators have completed excation of soils to be shipped off site. REuse of onsite soils will continue as the excavation is regraded in preparation for the cap installation.

Oct. 06, 2009 - Impermeable liner and drainage layers were installed as designed. Reconstruction of the riverbank rip rap is ongoing. Dewataering operations haae been completed; equipment will be decontaminated and demobilized.

Oct. 26, 2009 - All disposal has been completed. The Site has been backfilled, capped and regraded. Repaving activity began on Oct. 26, 2009.

November 05, 2009 - Repaving and line striping completed.

November 12, 2009 - The EPA OSC and the RP contractors conducted a final site walk over. All work appears to be substantially completed.

Landscaping was completed in the spring of 2010.
