The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 Superfund Remedial program contacted the EPA Emergency Response, Removal & Prepardness Branch (ERRPB) regarding a creosote seep entering Hughes creek at the American Creosote Works National Priorties List Site, Louisville, Winston county, MS. The seep is suspected to be coming from residual subsurface creosote located along an old creek bed. The seep is resulting in a surface sheen and free product creosote impacting the creek. On April 26, 2015, the ERRPB initiated an emergency response to establish containment and place absorbent materials at seep location to minimize impact to the creek.

On September 16, 2015, a ceiling increase and $2 million exemption action memo was approved for a time critical removal action at the Site.
