  2.2 Planning Section

2.2.1 Anticipated Activities
2.2.1.1 Planned Response Activities
During this removal action, contaminated soil will be excavated and removed from 14 residential properties and 1 tribal allotment.  Soil will be excavated in 6" lifts to a maximum depth of 12" total depth (24" total depth in garden areas).  The excavation will be backfilled with the material of the property owner's choice.  The excavated soil will be transported and disposed at an appropriate landfill.

2.2.1.2 Next Steps

Over the next (final) reporting period, the following activities are scheduled to occur:

  • Complete restoration at all properties.
  • Hydro-seeding is planned for 10 properties. All hydro-seeding is anticipated to be completed by November 11.
  • Conduct final property inspections with homeowners (if possible).
  • Road base material will be spread out on Mitchell Road to fill areas of ruts and pot holes.

  • Decontaminate and demobilize all equipment, trailers, and personnel.

2.2.2 Issues

All properties that require hydro-seeding will be hydro-seeded beginning November 2 and is expected to continue until approximately November 11.

The first significant rainfall occurred during the last reporting period.  The rainfall made the backfilling more difficult and resulted in increased damage to unexcavated areas by heavy equipment and truck traffic.  Backfilling was temporarily suspended at the remaining property that isn't backfilled.

Daylight Saving Time ended resulting in the sun setting earlier in the afternoon (approximately 4:30 pm).  We will begin work earlier (6:30 am) to maximize working time in daylight hours.
