2.1.1 Narrative
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
Week of 27 Sept:
Completed construction of the water treatment pad; received
all water treatment system components; setup water treatment system; and
successfully completed startup testing of the treatment system. Continued to mobilize slide rail shoring
components to the Site; completed shoring design. Completed construction of the 7 containment
cells. OIW completed the relocation of materials
from the existing laydown area to the temporary laydown area to accommodate
cleanup activities. Using EPA’s
direct-push Geoprobe, 7 soil borings were completed to an approximate depth of
30 feet each to assist with siting the slide rail shoring system and to investigate
other potential contaminant source areas; soil samples were collected from all
7 borings and groundwater samples were collected from 4 borings. Demolished 4 pump sheds associated with the
inactive groundwater cleanup wells (GCW).
Completed utility locate within proposed excavation area. Monitored and maintained construction BMPs
throughout the Site for control of erosion, fugitive dust, and stormwater
management. Continued coordination with
ODOT and Clackamas County regarding cleanup activities. Assembled slide rail system and started
excavation of contaminated soil.
Week of 5 Oct:
Installed shoring for first cell of removal and completed excavation down to 25'. Materials from first cell are being maintained/stored within temporary containment cells awaiting profile sampling results for disposal. Continued to bring water treatment plant online. Treated water samples were taken from holding tank to evaluate effectiveness of water treatment plant. Due to operational issues, on 10 Oct the water treatment control unit was exchanged for a different one.
START conducted a sampling event on 11 nearby monitoring wells testing for pre-removal contamination levels.
Monitored and maintained construction BMPs
throughout the Site for control of erosion, fugitive dust, and stormwater
management. Continued coordination with
ODOT and Clackamas County regarding cleanup activities. Hosted site walk with EPA RPM, State and local partners.
