The following activities were accomplished during this reporting period:

ERRS continues to maintain the Command Post area located at the old Carver High School, 3400 33rd Terrace North, Birmingham, AL. Some of the Command Post activity is to maintain and improve engineering controls to manage storm water runoff due to the routine heavy and persistent storms that have been so dominant in the Southeast throughout this project. Other ERRS activity at this location is the constant management of contaminated soil excavated from the properties as well as clean fill and topsoil.  ERRS loaded approximately 3,000 yards (total to date) of contaminated soil for disposal at Jefferson County Landfill #1.  Action Environmental has served as the carrier.

Other ERRS activity was to remove trees, stumps, other vegetative waste, fencing, and debris from properties in preparation of excavation efforts. CMC conducted preparation work on parcels CV0832, CV0694, CV0109, CV0529, CV0579, CV0710, CV0886, CV1042, HP0218, HP0072, HP0113, and HP0062.  CMC completed excavation and backfill on CV0694, CV0109, CV0885, CV0529, CV0710, CV0579, CV1042, CV0886, HP0218, HP0072, and HP0113.  CMC also laid sod on parcels HP0218, HP0072, HP0037, CV0529, CV0885, and CV0109. 

EPA continues to meet with property owners on an ad hoc basis at the Command Post or at their respective properties to answer questions regarding the pending excavation efforts and respond to their concerns.  During this reporting period, EPA also attended a public meeting hosted by the Greater Birmingham Alliance to Stop Pollution (GASP).

START continues to monitor site conditions including air monitoring and sampling as well as removal documentation and soil profiling as directed by the OSC.  Air sampling has included periodic personnel air sampling on a representative ground technician and an excavator operator.  To date, air monitoring indicates all operations are well controlled and have minimized blowing dusts.
