The following activities took place during this reporting period:
ERRS continued to work on the burn pile removing paint cans and other containers and conducting flammability testing on them to create waste streams. By the end of this reporting period, ERRS had completed going through the actual burn pile and began working on the impacted containers near the pile. The area in particular was an area of approximately 100-150 five gallon containers of paint that were melted from the heat of the fire.
Also during this reporting period, ERRS finished constructing a larger entry door on the east side of the north building in order to allow larger equipment (i.e. a forklift) to enter the building.
START also received replacement AreaRae's that contained a carbon monoxide (CO) sensor. This was needed because ERRS will begin using propane and gasoline powered equipment in the building soon.
The final thing conducted during this reporting period was a recon of the storage tanks attached to the south building. The tanks are enclosed in a building with a deep subfloor. Access to the room in which they are located is very difficult and was not attempted at this time. There are only two access points to the room, on is a 4' hole in the wall and the other is through a door from the outside that is welded shut. Assessment of the tanks will occur in the future.
The following actions are planned during the next reporting period:
- ERRS will continue to conduct flammability testing containers in the north warehouse. Thorough current testing it was determined that some containers are mislabeled (i.e. one container was labeled ink when it was actually paint). Should a full hazcat of a substance be needed, START will step in and conduct the test.
- The PRP plans to stop by at some point to remove some non-haz items (dishes, furniture, etc.). ERRS and START will, to the extent practicable, assist the PRP in tagging those items.
The following action items are planned at the site prior to completion:
- Once all hazardous materials have been segregated in the North building, disposal will arranged for the materials. - Once crews are finished with the North Building, they will move to the South building to conduct a similar process there.
The following items are identified as Key Issues at this site:
- Site access. The PRP has not been able to get the word out that the facility is officially closed and the Site continues to get visitor throughout the day inquiring about the status of the company. - Vandalism. The Site continues to get vandals at night. ERRS has hired security to watch the Site at night and on weekends, but due to the large nature of the Site, they are still able to get in. - Weather. The North and South Warehouses are in poor structural condition and every time that it rains, the building leaks causing water to infiltrate work zones.
