Pollution Report (POLREP) #5
Site Description
For Site Description and Background Information, please refer to previous POLREPs for this Site.

Current Activities
During this reporting period ERRS continued the task of segregating and packing paint containers in the north building.  They have completed the work on the fire pile area and the former paint mixing room.  They have now begun working on a caged in area against the southern wall of the north building that held solvents as well as many boxes of unlabeled materials.  Investigation of the boxes reveled that they contain fire debris, most likely from a former fire at the facility.  Mixed in the debris were paint cans and other containers that were removed, tested for flammability and packaged.  Work in this area will continue into the next reporting period.

The Site was shut down for the Memorial Day Holiday from the afternoon of 5/22 until 5/27/2009.  ERRS and START were demobilized from the Site.

On May 27 and 28, 2009 the first loads of waste were shipped off-site for disposal.  To date, a total of 18,059 containers have been packaged into 203 cubic yard boxes.  Of the total, 8,345 were flammable and 9,714 were non-flammable.  Meanwhile, aerosols, pesticides, fertilizers, and other solvents are being collected for future disposal.

Also during this reporting period the PRP began removing building  materials (non-haz) from the south building that he feels he can donate.  On May 29, 2009 the OSC ceased this operation due to too many unauthorized personnel trying to enter the building.  At this time the OSC has decided to limit all access to the property from non-authorized personnel; authorized personnel are the EPA, EPA contractors and the PRP.

Planned Removal Actions
During the next reporting period ERRS will continue to work on characterizing and staging the hazazrdous wastes in the north building.  If needed another load of waste may be disposed of.

The OSC also plans to talk to the PRP about restricting access to the south building.

Next Steps
Once the north building is complete work will begin ont he south building.
