Site Description
The DSC-Trenton Site (aka Detroit Steel Company formerly McLouth Steel) is a former steel production facility located at 1491 West Jefferson Avenue, Trenton, Michigan.

See previous POLREPs for details.


Current Activities
On July 30, U.S. EPA completed draining the PCB transformers. Approximately 36,000 gallons (including an additional 13,000 gallons identified during a site survey and not included in the original scope) of PCB oil were collected. To date 22,741 gallons have been shipped for incineration to the Clean Harbors Dear Park Facility, 2027 Independence Parkway South, La Porte, Texas 77571.  

U.S. EPA has also initiated the transportation and disposal of PCB capacitors. To date U.S. EPA has packaged and shipped for incineration 264 of 3,744 capacitors to Veolia Environmental Services, 7769 Highway 73, Port Arthur, Texas 77640.


Next Steps
1) Continue disposal of transformer PCB oil,
2) Continue packaging PCB capacitors,
3) Continue disposal of PCB capacitors.


Key Issues
The environmental problems outlined in the site’s closure plan are beyond the scope of this removal action.  The On-Scene Coordinator has requested U.S. EPA’s Remedial Section determine whether DSC should be scored for the NPL.
