Current Activities
‒ All 55-gallon drums and miscellaneous containers were opened, color coded for liquids or solids contents identification.  Furthermore, drums containing liquids were consolidated with like materials prior to sampling and inventory.  All empty drum containers were staged adjacent to the former waste drum processing/storage building.  Drum sampling activities were completed on August 19, 2003.

‒ Hazardous liquid waste shipments were initiated on September 27, 2003.

Planned Removal Actions

‒ Project activities will continue to ship all liquid materials to EPA approved off-site TSDFs for recycling, treatment or thermal destruction.

‒ Liquid laboratory waste materials have been prepared for off-site disposal in accordance with TSDF lab-pack guidelines.

‒ Tank G-4 contents and the current state of flow-ability is being reviewed fo removal consideration by the PRP group technical committee.

Next Steps

‒ Ongoing site operations will ship an unspecified amount of liquid materials to off-site EPA approved TSDFs.  The disposal contractor was able to ramp-up the amount of truckload shipments to off-site TSDFs.  Average number of loads per day is 3 for non-hazardous oils & water mixtures and 2 to 3 for hazardous solvents & oil mixtures.

‒ To date, 30 tanks have been emptied and cleaned.  Additional tanks will be cleaned after a sufficient number of tanks have been emptied.  Tank cleaning activities is anticipated to re-start the week of October 20th or 27th of 2003.
