Current Activities
8/11/04: OSC Benson on-site crossover with OSC Wise. START and PST performed some radioactive and non-radioactive item sorting in the north yard.  Awaiting approval of Action Memorandum and incremental funding for ERRS TO.

8/12/04: PRP attorney contacted OSC regarding the potential (future) for a PRP contractor job walk.  There has been no contact/follow-up to-date beyond this initial notification.

8/13-23/04: In this period prior to re-activiation of ERRS, the on-site team continued to research, develop and document site protocols in the form of Public Exposure/Air Sampling QASP, Consolidated Health and Safety Plan document, Segregation Plan, Community Involvement Plan, and transportation and disposal planning activities.

8/13/04:  Action Memo/$2 Million Statutory Exemtion Request approved by headquarters.

8/18/04: $1 million incremental funding added to ERRS TO.  OSC Benson tasked ERRS for disposal facility research and bidding and re-mobilization for 8/23/04.  

8/23/04:  ERRS RM on-scene.  START, OSC begin prepararion of a Site Emergency Contingency Plan incorporating notifications and procedures with local police and fire agancies.

8/24/04:  ERS Chief P. Guria on-site today. J. Wade (ERRS) on-site today for remainder of week to work on transportation and disposal planning issues. START/PST continuing the north yard item segregation and screening procedures.  

8/25/04:  START/PST/ERRS continue north yard item segregation and screening procedures.  ERRS is discussing project with possible teaming subcontractors specializing in radiation waste management. New World Technologies on-site for job walk.

8/26/04:  START/PST/ERRS continue north yard item segregation and screening procedures.

Next Steps
1.  Delivery of Unilateral Adminstrative Orders
2.  Continue process of clarification and reconciliation of "Radiation Assessment Guides" (RAGs) prepared for site with language and procedures in draft Public Exposure/Air Sampling QASP, Consolidated Health and Safety Plan document, and draft Segregation Plan.
3.  Receipt and implementation of written Community Involvement Plan from project CIC.
4.  Receipt, review of ERRS scope-or-work to be used for radiological waste management solicitations by ERRS.


Key Issues
1.  Receipt of Request for Federal Action from State.  ORC and the State attorney are presently working on this issue.
2.  City of Los Angeles Local Enforcement Agency has prohibited the disposal of any solid waste from the site within the City limits.
3.  Develop process for releasing clean items to PRP or indefinite storage on-site.
4.  Project gray-water analytical and discharge requirements to the sanitary sewer are confirmed and need to be documented in a brief QASP.
