Current Activities
September 27, 2004:  1 OSC, 2 PST, 5 START, 11 ERRS;    ERRS continued to bulk debris for disposal as non-RCRA hazardous waste.  All debris surveyed for gamma radiation prior to bulking into a roll-off-bin by PST.  The START continued to assess items for alpha and gamma residual radiation. The START continued the air surviellance program.  The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination, medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.

ERRS subcontracted health physics support sub-contractor mobilized to the site.  The sub-contractor is to assist in segregation and disposal of radioactive waste.

September 28, 2004:  1 OSC, 2 PST, 3 START, 11 ERRS; ERRS continued to bulk debris for disposal.  The START continued to assess items for alpha and gamma residual radiation. The START continued the air surviellance program.  The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination, medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.

Based on discussions with the PRP, no further free release clearance surveys will be conducted.  All materials in the yard will be disposed of as radioactive or non-RCRA hazardous waste.

September 29 2004: 1 OSC, 2 PST,  3 START, 11 ERRS:  ERRS continued to bulk  debris for disposal.  The START continued the air surviellance program.  The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination, medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.

40 cubic yards of non-RCRA hazardous waste debris sent to off-site for disposal to U.S. Ecology.

September 30,2004:  1 OSC, 2 PST,  4 START, 9 ERRS;  ERRS bulked free released items as scrap metal or into the debris bins.  ERRS continued to bulk debris. The START continued the air surviellance program.  The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination, medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.

OSC and PST set up a radon sampler at a nearby Los Angeles City Fire Department station to collect background data.

October 1, 2004:  1 OSC, 2 PST, 4 START, 11 ERRS:  ERRS prepared the floor of the south warehouse to reapply an epoxy coating over areas of fixed radiation. ERRS continued to bulk solid waste debris. The START continued the air surviellance program.  The START updated the item identification web database used to track the types of items found on-site.  For access to the web site contact OSC Robert Wise.  The START worked with the health physics sub-contractor to integrate their protocols into the Consolidated HASP.  The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination and medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.

October 2, 2004:  3 ERRS:  ERRS reapplied epoxy sealant to areas of fixed contamination on the floor of the south warehouse.

October 4, 2004:   1 OSC, 2 PST, 3 START, 12 ERRS:   ERRS began to segregate radioactive waste by wastestream based on activity. ERRS continued to bulk solid waste debris. The START continued the air surviellance program.  The START continued to update the item identification web database.  The START worked with the health physics sub-contractor to integrate their protocols into the Consolidated HASP.  The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination and medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.

October 5, 2004:  1 OSC, 2 PST, 3 START, 12 ERRS:   ERRS continued to segregate radioactive waste by wastestream based on activity. ERRS continued to bulk solid waste debris. The START continued the air surviellance program.  The START continued updated the item identification web database.   The PST continued to track costs via RCMS, conduct decontamination and medical monitoring of personnel and conduct the daily perimeter gamma survey.  PST updated the exposure tracking database.

Planned Removal Actions
Phase 2. North/South Yard Cleanout:
October 7, 2004:  Mobilization of a radioactive mobile laboratory to site.  Bulking of radioactive waste to begin.
Phase 2 operations expected to continue until late October 2004.  Site operations will be suspended the week starting November 22, 2004 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Phase 3. North Building Cleanout:  November 2004
Phase 4. North Building Structural Assessment:  February 2005
Phase 5. North/South Building Decon:  March 2005
Phase 6. Yard Area/Subsurface Assessment:  March 2005
Phase 7. Yard/Subsurface Remediation: April 2005
