Current Activities
During the week of September 19, 2005 GLDM began dredging operations on Ruddiman Pond and J&M Construction began excavating sediment in Ruddiman Creek.  As of 9/23/05 approximately 1,700 cy of sediment has been removed from the pond and approximately 350 cy of material has been removed from Area G of Ruddiman Creek.  Earlier in the week J&M installed two 48” HDPE culverts in Area G, diverting the creek around the contaminated excavation area.  No dredging activities were performed on 9/22/05 due to T-Storms.

Disposal of contaminated sediment began on 9/22/05 and as of 9/23/05 - 32 truck-train loads have been shipped off-site to Ottawa Farms landfill in Coopersville, MI.   A total of approximately 1,550 tons of sediment has been disposed of to date.  EQM completed installation of approximately 5,700 ft of 6” HDPE pipeline for transporting excavation water to the on-site water treatment plant.  The pipeline was charged and tested for leaks on 9/23/05 and the water treatment plant was tested for leaks on 9/22/05.

The T-storms on 9/22/05 resulted in minor flooding in Areas G,H & I.  The flooding halted ongoing work and washed out a 10-12' section of roadway which accessed Area G.  Flood waters receded by 9/23/05 and work continued as scheduled after repairs were made to the roadway.  All erosion control inspections were conducted following the storm event and any necessary repairs completed.

Planned Removal Actions
During the week of 9/26/05 full scale dredging operations will be ongoing in Ruddiman Pond and in Area G, H or I of Ruddiman Creek.  Transportation, Disposal and water treatment will occur simultaneously with the ongoing dredging activities.

Next Steps
Continue dredging operations.
