Pollution Report (POLREP) #8
Site Description
See Initial POLREP dated 12/8/2004.

Current Activities
From June 24, 2005, through June 28, 2005, the Emergency Rapid Response Service (ERRS) contractor continued with the off-site disposal of lead-contaminated soils at the site.  An X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) unit was used to confirm the limits of excavation.  The Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) collected samples to be analyzed by the lab to support the XRF readings.

On-site treatment of the excavated soils was completed during the previous reporting period.  Samples of the treated soil were taken and analyzed to verify that the soil met the appropriate treatment standards.  A total of 10,398 tons of treated soil has been sent to a CERCLA compliant landfill.

Backfilling and final grading of the site was completed by 06/28/05.  Most of the perimeter fence has been removed since the site no longer presents an unacceptable risk and the fence was located on several different properties.

All ERRS crew and equipment was demobed from the site by June 30, 2005.

Final landscaping and seeding was completed on 09/30/05. The site was mowed, seeded and mulched.  Final seeding was delayed until September due to the extremely dry weather.

Planned Removal Actions
No further action.

Next Steps
Completion of the final site report documenting the removal action.  The extent of the remaining wetlands contamination will be included in this report. This report is anticipated to be complete by 11/01/05.

Key Issues
Lead contamination above the site cleanup level of 700 ppm was found to extend into a wetland like area.  A small area of the wetland was excavated before the full extent of contamination was determined. A sampling investigation was conducted to determine the extent of lead contamination. Elevated levels of lead up to 2040 ppm were found in the upper six inches of organic material over several acres. Due to the extent of contamination, further remediation of the wetland like area was determined to be beyond the scope of this removal action.
