Please refer to PolRep numbers 38 or 39 for details.
During the current reporting period 106 loads of asbestos contaminated soils were loaded and disposed of site, excavation and restoration was completed on grid number 24, and about 1/4 of grid number 34 was excavated and restored. Please see the Documents Section for an updated map. See Images Section for updated site photos.
In addition, a residential property which was identified for clean up back in 2002, was finally addressed. To our knowledge, there are no more residential properties awaiting clean up.
Of the 309 samples collected as of 18 October 2005, 1 was overloaded with dust or damaged, thus preventing the analysis of the sample cartridge. Of the remaining samples that have been analyzed, 32 samples (10 %) contained concentrations of asbestos above the project-specific air quality objective with a maximum concentration of 0.008 S/cc. 26 of these samples were collected between 13 June 2005 and 16 June 2005. During this period the analytical laboratory was using a higher sensitivity and the analytical method detection limit used could not achieve our desired level. Per our request, the laboratory adjusted its sensitivity to 0.001 S/cc as of 17 June 2005. Since 17 June 2005, 7 samples were reported above the air quality objective of 0.001 S/cc with a maximum of 0.002 S/cc. 2 of these samples were reported in higher sensitivity resulting from lower volume intake. 5 of these samples were associated with near source sampling. Laboratory asbestos concentrations in all remaining 269 samples collected and analyzed since 17 June 2005 reported concentrations at or below the air quality objective.
Of the 131 soil samples collected as of 18 October 2005 , 18 had detectable levels of tremolite and chrysotile asbestos <1%, and 2 samples were over the action level of 1%.
None at this time. The removal activities at the Park will resume next year, when the weather conditions permit.
Secure the site for the winter months, and decontaminate and demobilize equipment and supplies. Dembilization is expected to be completed by Friday, 21 October 2005.
The Park shall remain closed to the public until the removal action is completed next year.
