During the current reporting period, excavation of asbestos impacted soils continued in grids 34, 35, 45 and 46. These areas have been backfilled and restored. Also, on 31 July 2006 disposal of the stockpiled soils from these areas began. A total of 91 truckloads with contaminated soils were transported for off-site disposal. Continuous air monitoring is in place, as well as dust control measures. See Images Section for updated site photos.
Of the 345 air samples collected and analyzed as of 5 August 2006, 1 was overloaded with dust or damaged, thus preventing the analysis of the sample cartridge. Of the remaining air samples that have been analyzed, 39 samples contained concentrations of asbestos above the project-specific air quality objective with a maximum concentration of 0.008 S/cc. Analytical results have not been received for the 14 air samples collected between 27 July 2006 and 1 August 2006. Of the 38 air samples collected and analyzed as of July 2006 startup, 6 samples were reported above the air quality objective of 0.001 S/cc with a maximum of 0.004 S/cc.
Of the 185 soil samples collected as of 29 July 2006, 19 had detectable levels of Tremolite and Chrysotile asbestos <1%, 2 were above the action level of 1-2%, 1 was above the action level of 10-15%, and 1 was 15-20%. Analytical results have not been received for the 6 TEM soil samples collected 21 July 2006.
Continue the excavation of asbestos impacted soils, off site disposal of excavated soils, and backfill and restoration of excavated areas. It is expected this will continue through the Summer months.
Continue with the planned removal actions. Upon completion, re-open the Park to the public.
