Site Description
The National Park Service requested EPA assistance to deal with gasoline and other engine fluids that covered about 3/4 of Tipsoo Lake, as a result of a collision that involved 2 passenger vehicles and an RV.  Tipsoo Lake is only a few acres in size, but a much photographed picturesque and fragile alpine lake.  The Park Service requested assistance in overseeing and directing cleanup.  The Park Service has hired NRC as a cleanup contractor.

The US Park Service, EPA, and NRC worked late into the night/morning removing the truck and stabilizing the situation until morning. Boom and pads were set at the out flow and shoreline of the lake. Operations were suspended until morning due to fog and safety considerations.

At 6am the Park Service, EPA, and NRC met back at the lake to begin the cleanup of the lake. Booms and pads were used to skim the sheen from the lake surface. A vac-truck was used to suck the skimmed oil from the lake. By the end of the day, a majority of the sheen and mousse were recovered from the lake. Fresh pads and boom were left at the outflow of the lake to catch any remaining sheen.
