Site Description
The Site is located at the corner of Maple Street and LaSalle Street in St. Albans, Vermont.  The geographic coordinates, as measured from the approximate center of the property, are 44° 48’ 46.8” north latitude and 73° 05’ 24.0” west longitude.  The Site is further identified as 24-34 Lasalle Street, 38 Maple Street, 40 Maple Street, and 48 Maple Street.  Through the Action Memorandum Addendum dated April 18, 2006, the properties located on 24-34 LaSalle Street and 48 Maple Street were included into the Site boundaries.  The extent of contamination surveys conducted at these two properties documented the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) at elevated levels which posed a public health threat.

Current Activities
On August 9, 2006, EPA and START mobilized to the Site to meet with the home owners and to inspect the results of the hydro-seed application on each of the properties.  START also photodocumented current site conditions.

On September 12, 2006, EPA and START met with VTDEC representatives at the Site to dicuss completed removal activities and to inspect current site conditions and confirmed that response related damages were repaired adequately, eg., re-establishing vegetative cover on the affected properties.  START conducted final site photodocumentation.  After the meeting, EPA returned oversight responsibilities back to VTDEC and all parties departed the Site.

On February 1, 2007, EPA sent out copies of the Removal Program After Action Report to the property owners and to the VTDEC.


Planned Removal Actions
No further removal activities are planned.  The removal action is completed.

 
Disposition Of Wastes
From 10/22/05 to 11/03/05, approximately 2490 tons of PAH-contaminated soils were sent to New England Waste Service of New York located at 280 Sand Road in Morrisonville, NY for off-site disposal.

From 6/27/06 to 7/11/06, approximately 1554 tons of PAH-contaminated soils were sent to New England Waste Services of Vermont located at 21 Landfill Lane in Coventry, VT for off-site disposal.
