The Sybill site is located at 111 Military Road in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, and is comprised of a process building (including boiler house), an office building, a small pump house, a water tower, two parking areas, and 26 ASTs (5 outdoor and 21 indoor) with a combined storage capacity of approximately 1,682,000 gallons. The nearest waterway is the Detroit River located approximately 0.5 miles southeast of the facility.
Altech Environmental, Connestoga Rovers and Associates, and Clean Waters (PRP contractors) have completed mobilization and are sampling, characterizing, and consolidating waste streams pending disposal. Air monitoring is being conducting during waste consolidation and sampling. PRP contractors have commenced waste disposal activities for some of the waste streams. 24-hour security is being provided for the duration of the project.
August 20 - 22, 2003 - PRP contractor initiated pumping and cleaning of the tanker trucks located along the north perimeter, and began bulking the compatible wastes for shipment to Edward’s Oil. August 25-29, 2003 - PRP contractors continued sampling and bulking of drums, and initiated transportation of waste oil to Edward’s Oil. September 02 - 12, 2003 - To date, approximately 90,500 gallons of the waste oil/water have been transported to Edward’s Oil (20,000 - 30,000 gallons per day). On September 3, 2003 the PRP contractors conducted air sampling utilizing Summa canisters at four different perimeter locations around the site. All sample results were below detection limit or believed to be unrelated to site activities.
