Pollution Report (POLREP) #8
Site Description
Strube, Inc. is an aircraft instrument sales and refurbishment contractor with a main office in Marietta, Pennsylvania.  The founder of Strube, Inc. (now deceased) had purchased large quantities of military surplus aircraft parts beginning soon after the end of World War II.  As the company’s inventory grew, Strube purchased additional warehouse space in several nearby communities.  Currently, Strube owns warehouses on seven properties located in the towns of Marietta, Columbia, Maytown, and Mt. Joy, all located in Lancaster County.

Current Activities
EPA continues to provide security and a fire watch until the threat is mitigated. EPA has acquired full access for sampling.

RERT completed sampling activities in the third warehouse in Columbia.  Lower Radon concentrations were detected in this warehouse.  Data continues to be evaluated as it is collected.  NDT arrived to the area this evening. RERT Las Vegas arrives tomorrow night for continuing sampling.

GemChem removed 20 drums of non-radioactive hazardous materials from the Strube Warehouses today.  Additional drums are expected be packed and shipped of site this week.  Strube is completing this removal activity under the DEP Administrative Order.

Planned Removal Actions
Approximately 150 drums of radium containing instruments located in one Columbia warehouse and packaged by a Strube contractor will be shipped off site.  Potential ERRS subcontractors will attend a site meeting tomorrow.

Next Steps
The Strube Unified Command will have the first meeting on site mid-week.  Sampling will continue in the remaining 4 warehouses during the next 2 weeks.
