Strube, Inc. is an aircraft instrument sales and refurbishment contractor with a main office in Marietta, Pennsylvania. The founder of Strube, Inc. (now deceased) had purchased large quantities of military surplus aircraft parts beginning soon after the end of World War II. As the company’s inventory grew, Strube purchased additional warehouse space in several nearby communities. Currently, Strube owns warehouses on seven properties located in the towns of Marietta, Columbia, Maytown, and Mt. Joy, all located in Lancaster County.
EPA continues to provide security and a fire watch until the threat is mitigated. EPA has acquired full access for sampling. The EPA mobile command post was moved to the Mt Joy warehouse. RERT continued sampling activities in the fifth warehouse. Two radiation hot spots were identified greater than 100 mR/hr on two isolated locations. Data continues to be evaluated as it is collected.
Approximately 150 drums of radium containing instruments packaged by a Strube contractor remain in one Columbia warehouse. These drums will be shipped off site under an ERRS subcontract.
Sampling will continue in the remaining warehouses during the next 2 weeks.
