The Site consists of 7 structures and 4 yards situated on 5 residential properties known as “homesites.” In winter 2007-2008, U.S. EPA, in partnership with Navajo Nation EPA (NNEPA), investigated 56 homesites containing 113 structures. The overall investigation identified 27 structures and 12 yards requiring response actions. The 7 structures of concern and the 4 residential yards are located within the Teec Nos Pos Chapter area. Two of the structures are occupied for residential purposes, although one resident has since moved to another structure on the same homesite.
START - 1, EPA - 1(OSC Yocum), USCG - 1, ERRS - 6. From 10/13 through 10/15, ERRS prepped roads to the Site, constructed the staging area, and gutted the interior of some of the buildings in preparation for demolition. On 10/15, EPA and NNEPA recieved archeological clearance for all Teec Nos Pos structures. From 10/16 through 10/17, ERRS completed demolition of structures HS-0003-A & B (hogan and house). Dinetahdoo Cultural Resource Management provided oversight for the demolition of these structures. Additionally, ERRS excavated contaminated soils at this homesite. START segregated soil and construction debris waste streams according to the Debris Management Plan. Also, START conducted air monitoring of working areas using Hi-Volume air samplers.
On 10/18, ERRS completed demolition of HS-0007-A (a hogan) and excavated and stockpiled contaminated soils from this homesite.
During the week of 10/20, ERRS will demolish HS-0004-C (hogan) and HS-0005-C (hogan - recently occupied) and the excavate contaminated soils from the yards of these homesites.
