Site Description
See previous POLREP information.

The cost budget and summary for this Site was updated on April 23, 2009, to include budget approved in the November 2008 Action Memorandum, to reflect a separation between the 2004 and the 2008 Removal Actions, and to track unallocated costs.

Current Activities
The ERRS contractor used a subcontracted crane and a manlift to remove three transformers located in the west side alley which served the former facility.  The transformers were staged onsite on a concrete pad.  ERRS collected samples of the oil from each transformer and shipped the samples to be analyzed for disposal profile.

ERRS used a concrete saw to cut the concrete above drainage pipes and around sumps containing PCB contaminated sediment.  This was done to allow removal of the concrete to allow access to remove and dispose of PCB-contaminated pipes and sediment/sludge/debris within.

ERRS used an excavator to remove concrete slabs that were cut in the west side alley and staged the concrete in a segregated pile in Area 3a, along the remnants of northern building wall.

ERRS collected bricks, soil, and debris from across the Site and staged them in piles in Area 3a.  The stockpiled materials were segregated into piles of clean materials and piles of material suspected to be contaminated.

EPA met with representatives of the City of Bluefield, WV to discuss upcoming work to repair any infrastructure potentially removed due to contamination or otherwise damaged.  The City will provide personnel, equipment and supplies to accomplish this task.

ERRS pumped water and removed debris from a small pit near the Locker Room.  The pit will be used to collect decontamination water from the decontamination of City of Bluefield sewer video equipment which will be used to further investigate area storm drains.

Planned Removal Actions
