EPA and contractors continued work around the clock in attempt to allow for reoccupancy on Monday, 02/28/2005. After 8 to 10 cleanings, Lumex results began to show consistent readings below the goal of 1ug/m3.
On 02/26/2005 a Final Clearance Sampling Plan was forwarded to DCDOH for their review. DCDOH provided approval after requesting that a sample location be added for a day care in the basement. EPA agreed.
Ten sample locations were set up with low volume samplers for a 6.5 hour run thru the night and morning of 02/25 and 02/26. Samples were driven to lab in Middletown, Pa on 2/26/2005.
Results were returned later in the evening on 02/26/2005. All samples results were well below the cleanup goal of 1ug/m3.
EPA OSC notified both DcDOH and the school officials.
On 02/26/2005 the OSC manifested 20 drums containing mercury contaminated debris to Cycle Chem for disposal/retort.
On 02/26/2005 in the evening, EPA was requested by DcDOH, to scan a residential location determined to be the home of the spiller. This request followed DcDOH's total screening of the home. No residual mercury was detected.
On 02/27/2005 EPA participated in a press conference with DcDOH, school officials and MPD to announce the reopening of the school for 02/28/2005.
